A.B.C. Youth Mission:
To empower the Flint Community youth and families through skilled trades, culinary and life-skills, that will promote and celebrate lifelong learning for the success of youth and families.

‘It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.’

Frederick Douglass

Active Boys in Christ is a nonprofit 501©(3) organization founded by Derrick Watkins in 2017. It’s main purpose is to expose the youth in the Flint Community to the career opportunities found in Skilled Trades. Derrick’s desire to start the program was birthed from his own childhood experience. Growing up in the Flint and Beecher Community, he understood that Flint kids didn’t have the same opportunities or access to resources as those in different districts, cities, and towns. He was always told, “if you don’t go to college, you will be working at a Fast food restaurant for the rest of your life.” Derrick knew college wasn’t for everyone.
“Our youth in Flint need career options and we want to give them the opportunity and information to be successful in their career of choice. As Frederick Douglass said, “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” That’s how Active Boys in Christ came about.”
Today we are closing that gap!
