Derrick D. Watkins: Founder & CEO of Active Boys in Christ

Derrick D. Watkins is the Founder and CEO of Active Boys in Christ (ABC), established in 2017 to address the lack of skilled trade opportunities for youth in Flint, Michigan. After overcoming personal challenges, including dropping out of high school and becoming a licensed master electrician, Watkins created ABC to offer mentorship and hands-on training in trades like electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, and culinary arts. The organization has impacted over 515 youth, promoting values such as integrity and self-confidence, inspired by Frederick Douglass' quote, "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." Alongside his role at ABC, Watkins is the pastor of Jachin Baptist Church, with his wife, Christine, playing a key role in the organization. ABC has received support from community partners, empowering Flint’s youth to build successful futures.
