Program Overview

Skilled Trades Projects Youth

provides hands-on experience for young people in the trades, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. By participating in real-world projects, students gain valuable skills that prepare them for a successful career in the trades industry

What You Will Learn

  • Youth aged 7-12 will construct temporary walls for wiring receptacles and light fixtures, gaining fundamental electrical skills.
  • Youth aged 13-17 will build four 16x20 sheds, integrating internal and external building techniques such as framing, roofing, and finishing.
  • Participants will engage in life skills workshops, mentorship sessions, and community projects, contributing to personal and professional growth.

Program Duration and Requirements

Duration: 4 Weeks

Age Group: 7-17 years old

Requirements: No prior experience required.

Upon completion of the program, participants will have developed valuable skills in various trades and life skills, preparing them for future career opportunities in construction, plumbing, electrical work, and other skilled trades

Carpentry

Carpentry will be one of the most developed skills in this program, as it includes building temporary walls, wooden structures, and more. This skill requires a hands-on and in-depth approach.

Key Skills:
  • Use of manual and power tools
  • Accurate measuring and cutting of wood
  • Assembling and constructing structures
  • Framing and panel installation

Electricity

Electricity is another important skill, as the youth will learn how to install receptacles, switches, and work with basic electrical circuits. This skill is essential for developing technical knowledge and useful skills in the job market.

Key Skills:
  • Wiring and connecting electrical circuits
  • Installing electrical devices (outlets, switches, etc.)
  • Understanding electrical safety protocols
  • Basic circuit reading and electrical schematics

Plumbing

Plumbing will be taught at a basic level but remains an essential skill within the trades. Although less time is dedicated to it compared to carpentry or electricity, it is still a key component of the training.

  • Basic water flow and drainage systems
  • Understanding plumbing codes and safety

Life Skills

Life Skills are an integral part of the program. Youth will learn fundamental skills such as teamwork, communication, conflict resolution, and personal development, which will help them succeed in both their professional and personal lives.
